As Samsung Electronics’ management and labor hold final talks two days before a planned general strike, a video of Choi Seung-ho — chair of the Samsung Electronics branch of the Samsung Group’s cross-company union — that originally appeared on the Samsung Semiconductor Newsroom employee vlog has resurfaced online. On the 19th, users across several online communities posted screenshots from Choi’s past vlog appearance. The three-year-old video was titled, “A social media sensation? The ‘golden-handed’ clay artist I met at Samsung Electronics.” Its on-screen introduction read: “A semiconductor ace by day, a clay artist by night? Who knew a clay-art hobby would come this far — meet Samsung Semiconductor’s craft ace, Seung-ho.”In the clip, Choi says he works in systems for the Foundry S5 manufacturing line. He describes developing automation systems to improve semiconductor production efficiency, collecting frontline workers’ input, and overseeing development, implementation, testing and ongoing maintenance. He also says he runs in-house training that includes more than 100 frontline employees and that participant feedback has been highly positive.Choi showcases clay pieces he made as a hobby, including Pokémon figures, a Samsung semiconductor mascot, and Pengsoo. Viewers noted that the person in the video looks very different from the union leader he is now. One commenter wrote, “At the time, he probably didn’t imagine it would turn out like this a few years later.”Meanwhile, Samsung management and the union remain locked in a tense tug-of-war over bonus payment terms as they conduct second-round post-adjustment talks. The negotiations center on the size of the bonus pool and whether to institutionalize lifting the cap. The two sides are deadlocked over allocating 15% of operating profit to the bonus fund and formally removing the 50% cap on bonus payouts tied to annual salary.#SamsungElectronics #Union #ChoiSeungHo #Chair #BonusesYonhap News TV — For reports and tips: KakaoTalk/LINE jebo23.
