[Sports Today Reporter Kim Tae-hyung] Actor Park Sung-woong, who was named as a witness in the perjury trial of former 1st Marine Division commander Im Seong-geun, said he would have difficulty attending.
According to judicial sources on the 24th, Park submitted a notice explaining his absence on the 19th to Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 22 (Presiding Judge Jo Hyung-woo), which is handling Im’s perjury case under the National Assembly Hearing and Evidence Act.
On the 25th, Park’s agency, Management Run, told Sports Today that he had indeed submitted an absence notice and that he is currently filming a movie and a television series; he will appear after completing those scheduled shoots.
Previously, in September of last year, Park appeared as a witness for the special prosecutor and testified that he had dined in 2022 in Gangnam, Seoul, with former Black Pearl Invest CEO Lee Jong-ho, former commander Im, and others.
Kim Keon Hee Lee, the former CEO who is considered a close aide to Kim Keon-hee, is suspected of having lobbied to exonerate Im — who was accused of negligent homicide in the 2023 death of Marine Corporal Chae — during that case.
Im denied the claim, saying, \”I’ve never met Lee Jong-ho. If I haven’t met him, how could I have met that actor?\” Park’s testimony, however, contradicted Im’s account and has been treated as key evidence.
The special prosecutor’s office concluded the testimony was false and indicted Im on perjury charges last November.
