Emphasizing humanity and agency in Incheon education with 'Read‑Walk‑Write AI' — outlines tailored AI and integrated education practices and unveils teacher support plans to strengthen AI teaching expertise

The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education unveiled the Incheon AI Education Joint Declaration on the 24th at its auditorium, with about 500 attendees, including students, teachers and education professionals.
The declaration sets out the educational values and direction necessary for the AI era. It shares the principles that should guide AI education in Incheon with the broader education community and seeks to build commitment to implementing those principles in schools.
Since last year, the office has convened an expert working group and a practical task force to codify Incheon’s AI education principles and to develop concrete policy implementation plans.
As a result, the office framed the direction for AI‑era education in Incheon under the banner Read‑Walk‑Write AI, aiming to nurture human qualities and personal agency while leveraging AI to generate new value.
The declaration outlines ▲ fostering life skills through human‑centered Read‑Walk‑Write ▲ development‑stage–tailored AI education ▲ AI use grounded in ethics, public interest and inclusivity ▲ and practical directions and principles for interdisciplinary education in the humanities, arts and science‑technology that connect local communities with the world through AI.
A teacher said, “As AI technology advances, students’ ability to think independently and to ask questions becomes increasingly important. We will work together to ensure the declaration’s direction and intent are translated into practice in our schools.”
The Incheon office plans to distribute guidelines and leaflets to schools and to support in‑service teachers in strengthening their AI education expertise so the declaration leads to tangible changes in classrooms.
It will also coordinate closely with the National Council of Provincial and Metropolitan Education Superintendents and the Ministry of Education to ensure that teacher candidates and newly appointed teachers develop the competencies needed for AI education.
