Receives plaque from parent council for children's traffic safety

Anyang City Council member Kim Do-hyeon received a plaque on the 23rd from the parent councils for traffic safety at Guiin and Minbaek Elementary Schools in the district.
Since last fall, Councilmember Kim has worked to improve traffic controls and pedestrian infrastructure to create safer routes to school.
The award recognizes Kim’s efforts to promote children’s safety on morning commutes. He led campaigns at key intersections — including the Pyeongchon Baekyoung High School junction, the Chowon LG Apartments intersection and the Kkum Gas Station three-way intersection — and held ongoing meetings with parent councils.
Notably, the Kkum Gas Station intersection was where a Minbaek Elementary student was struck and killed by a right‑turning vehicle on Dec. 8 last year. After the crash, Kim moved quickly to install a right‑turn signal, introduce simultaneous pedestrian walk signals at the intersection, repave crosswalks, set back stop lines and install protective barriers in the school zone.
He said, “I am deeply sorry and heartbroken that such an accident occurred while concrete changes to improve school-route safety were underway. I will keep up steady, focused communication so these measures do not become one‑off actions, and to build safer neighborhoods and school routes.”
In 2023 and 2024, Kim also had safety fences installed along the Hagui Stream walkway—from the north gate of the Ipyeonhansesang Apartments in Pyeongchon‑dong to the Uiwang city line—to enhance residents’ safety.
