The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has returned to No. 1 on the U.K. Official Albums Chart following the release of the biopic Michael.
On the 8th (local time), the U.K. Official Charts said Jackson’s 2005 compilation album THE ESSENTIAL topped the Official Albums Chart Top 100.
Several of Jackson’s albums and tracks re-entered the U.K. charts. His landmark Thriller climbed to No. 6 and Bad reached No. 8, while Off the Wall and Dangerous returned at No. 47 and No. 80, respectively.
The film tie-in collection MICHAEL – SONGS FROM THE MOTION PICTURE landed at No. 76.
On the Official Singles Top 100, one of Jackson’s signature songs, “Billie Jean,” rose to No. 4. “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” placed at No. 15, and the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” came in at No. 33.
Jackson’s catalog has also reappeared across the U.S. Billboard charts. Industry analysts attribute the surge to the box-office traction of Michael, a documentary-style biopic about Jackson’s life and musical career. The movie opened earlier in North America and is set to debut in South Korea on the 13th.
Elsewhere on the Singles Chart, the original soundtrack “GOLDEN” from the Netflix animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters ranked No. 39. Cat’s Eye placed two tracks on the chart: “PINKY UP” at No. 47 and “TOUCH” at No. 98.
BTS’s “SWIM” remained at No. 49, marking its seventh consecutive week on the chart. On the albums chart, “ARIRANG” reached No. 20.
