(The CEN News / Reporter Kim Hyun-su) The Busan Cultural Center will stage Our Child’s Concert, a family-oriented program for May’s Family Month, on May 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the center’s small theater.
Designed and produced by the Busan Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, the program features classical favorites chosen for young listeners. The main pieces are Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf and Camille Saint-Saëns’ The Carnival of the Animals.
In a notable change from past policies, the orchestra lowered the age restriction for this performance so that children 24 months and older may attend. The adjustment gives many youngsters their first opportunity to hear live classical music.
The concert combines live orchestral playing with sand art and staged narration. Sand artist Noh Seon-yi will perform live on stage, while Busan Metropolitan Theater actors Lee Hyuk-woo and Oh Hee-kyung will present a two-person narrated piece to enrich the storytelling and spark imagination.

Deputy conductor Seung-hyun Baek will lead the orchestra. Baek has worked with numerous orchestras at home and abroad and has shown a strong interest in contemporary composition. He continues to be active as chief conductor of both the Busan Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and the Busan Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Sand artist Noh Seon-yi is the first sand artist in the Busan–Ulsan–Gyeongnam region and has appeared on stage more than 2,500 times. She has collaborated with choirs and symphony orchestras to create evocative visual stories.
Lee Hyuk-woo, who handles narration, is a principal member of the Busan Metropolitan Theater and works across film and musical theater. Actress Oh Hee-kyung has performed in a wide range of musicals and plays. Their two-person narrated piece aims to give audiences a new way to experience classical music.
Tickets for Our Child’s Concert are 10,000 KRW (approximately $7.50) for all seats and are available through the Busan Cultural Center website.
