[MyDaily = Reporter Seo Ki-chan] Dave Mason, the British guitarist whose work helped define the band Traffic, has died at 82. According to his family, Mason passed peacefully on a sunny Sunday while seated in his favorite chair, leaving behind a long and influential musical legacy.

On April 22 (local time), The Sun reported the news that stunned rock fans worldwide. The paper said Mason — who worked with members of Fleetwood Mac and counted the Rolling Stones among his contemporaries — quietly died Sunday the 19th at his home in Carson Valley, Nevada.

The announcement, posted on his Instagram account, left a deep void across the global music community.

A peaceful exit — true to the end

His final moments were as calm and graceful as the classic songs he wrote.

In a social-media statement, his family wrote, \”We announce with deep sorrow the passing of Dave Mason.\” They said he and his wife, Winnifred, prepared a pleasant dinner and spent an ordinary, warm evening together.

The statement added that he then sat down for a nap with his beloved Maltese, Star, at his feet. That quiet final scene, the family said, read like a carefully composed film.

The family continued, \”He sat in his favorite chair and passed away peacefully, surrounded by the beautiful Carson Valley he loved.\” They described it as a fairy-tale ending — exactly how he would have wanted it and the way he lived until the end.

Determined to perform, even while ill

In the end, it was heart trouble that took its toll.

Mason was hospitalized in September 2024 for emergency treatment of a heart condition, and his recovery was complicated by a serious infection that forced him to cancel a planned comeback concert last summer.

Still, he persevered. He performed as recently as a month before his condition was detected and never stopped playing the guitar. No official cause of death has been released, but many fans believe he has finally found rest after a long struggle with illness.

From Traffic to Fleetwood Mac — a soundtrack that will play on

In 1967, Mason co-founded Traffic in Birmingham with Steve Winwood and others, helping to write a notable chapter in pop history. After moving to the United States in 1971, he developed a free-spirited musical life in California and Nevada.

In the early 1990s he joined Fleetwood Mac for the album Time and toured extensively, demonstrating the enduring power of his artistry.

His skill drew collaborations with some of the era’s biggest names — Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson and more.

Family and colleagues said, \”He left a lasting imprint on the soundtrack of our lives and comforted many. His legacy will be cherished forever.\”

Mason is gone, but the melody of \”Feelin’ Alright?\” will endure as a timeless piece of music history.
