[Herald Economy – Reporter Cho Yong-jik] Golfzon Pastel, which operates a vocational choir for people with disabilities, began recruiting new members on the 16th.
The choir is holding open auditions for sopranos on a rolling basis. Applicants must be at least 20 years old and reside in South Korea. The selection process begins with document and video screening, followed by practical auditions and interviews; candidates who pass each round will be notified individually.
Selected singers will receive structured music training from a professional conductor and will take part in regular concerts and a range of cultural events.
Application forms and detailed recruitment information are available on the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled and the Seoul Disabled Job Support Center websites.
Golfzon Pastel founded the choir in February 2018 to give people a platform to pursue their dreams and to support stable employment for people with disabilities.
Composed of young performers with developmental, neurological and psychiatric disabilities who show musical talent, the Golfzon Pastel Choir has appeared on many stages since its founding. The group has earned top honors, including the grand prize at the National Disabled Choir Competition (2024) and a silver prize (2019); first place at the Seoul Disabled Choir Arts Festival (2019, 2022, 2024); and the Special K Awards grand prize at the Korea Disabled Arts Competition (2021), demonstrating its talent and potential as a vocational choir.
To mark its fifth anniversary in 2023, the choir released its first digital album, SWING YOUR DREAM.
\”The hardest part was being seen as someone who only deserves help,\” said Park Jeong-min, a founding member and tenor who has long performed with the choir. \”We may be a little slower, but it’s joyful and rewarding to challenge ourselves, pursue our dreams, and prove we can do things on our own.\”
\”The Golfzon Pastel Choir performs on diverse stages to send the message that anyone can do it,\” said Han Tae-jung, CEO of Golfzon Pastel. \”I hope that, together with the choir members, we can showcase the possibilities of arts by and for people with disabilities and bring hope and inspiration to more people.\”
The choir is scheduled to perform at the Disabled Golf Festival on the 28th at Golfzon Joymaru in Daejeon; at a Suseo-dong sharing performance on May 6 at the Suseo Myeonghwa Comprehensive Social Welfare Center for Family Month; and at the 4th Seosibok Music Concert on May 7 at the Seokchon Lake Atelier, where they will present a hopeful harmony.
