Gomohosu Park in Pocheon has been reborn — what used to serve as an agricultural reservoir is now a welcoming waterfront escape for residents and visitors.

On April 20, city officials announced the completion of the park’s renovation and unveiled the refreshed waterfront to the public with a ceremony in the park plaza.

The overhaul focused on replacing aging plaza facilities and reshaping the shoreline into a comfortable, accessible space where anyone can relax and linger.

Although the park sits close to the Seoul metropolitan area and already drew steady crowds, its outdated facilities had long called for improvements to the visitor experience.

Responding to residents’ input, the city carried out a comprehensive renovation. After about four years and several administrative steps — including consultations on agricultural infrastructure, lifting the agricultural protection designation, urban management planning decisions, and implementation-plan approvals — the project was completed.

The upgrades introduced a new outdoor stage, waterfront promenades, viewing-and-rest areas, gardens, night lighting, expanded parking, and dedicated photo zones.

Pedestrian routes along the water were strengthened for better flow and convenience, and upgraded lighting now makes the park inviting both day and night.

The park’s standout feature is how it blends its original role as an agricultural reservoir with a lifestyle-focused relaxation zone.

The broad expanse of water creates an open, airy feel, and the shoreline paths offer a more relaxed vibe than urban parks. Seasonal changes in the scenery only add to its charm.

Clustered cafes and restaurants along the reservoir add another layer of appeal.

With cozy cafés and dining spots lining the water, more young visitors are coming for a combo of drives, strolls, and meals.

The newly opened Pocheon–Hwado highway has improved access from the southeastern Seoul metro area, bringing weekend drive-in visitors who boost the park’s weekend buzz.

New outdoor fountains — perfect for cooling off — have recently started running and are drawing both eyes and foot traffic.

Local merchants have also created a nearby plaza and now run market programs like the “Gomo Market,” adding distinct local content that helps attract tourists.

Centered on the waterfront plaza, the park’s open layout supports performances, relaxation, and viewing simultaneously, making it ideal for local cultural activities and small events.

The completion ceremony included a commemorative speech, an unveiling, a ribbon-cutting, a ceremonial tree planting, and a group photo.

A city official said the city will focus on operation and maintenance so Gomohosu Park becomes a signature waterfront destination where residents and visitors can stay, enjoy, and make memories — not just a place to pass through on a walk.
