Hilton has officially opened Canopy by Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort.

The resort, which debuted on the 1st, is the brand’s first Canopy by Hilton resort in the Asia-Pacific region. It’s the second Canopy property in Japan after the urban Canopy by Hilton Osaka Umeda, and Hilton’s seventh property in Okinawa Prefecture.

Canopy by Hilton, Hilton’s lifestyle brand, operates roughly 50 hotels across 14 countries and territories. The brand is known for locally inspired experiences, thoughtful design, and curated food and drink that feel both elevated and comfortably relaxed.

After launching in Osaka Umeda in 2024, Canopy plans to open another property in Tokyo’s Akasaka neighborhood in 2028.

Miyako Island is famed for its crystal-clear waters—often called “Miyako Blue”—and Yonaha Maehama Beach is routinely listed among Japan’s finest beaches.

Located in the Turiver district of Miyakojima City, the resort is about a 15-minute drive from Miyako Airport and roughly 25 minutes from Shimojishima Airport, offering easy access to downtown Miyakojima and the Irabu Bridge.

Jin Air operates direct flights from Incheon, and on the 2nd it launched a new route from Busan’s Gimhae Airport, making travel more convenient for Korean visitors. The resort also offers a complimentary shuttle between Miyako Airport and the hotel.

The 12-story hotel features 11 room types across 306 rooms. Options range from standard and deluxe rooms with private balconies at 35 square meters (about 377 sq ft) to suites up to 102 square meters (about 1,098 sq ft).

There are 20 suites in five layouts with separate living rooms and bedrooms. Many suites have private balconies where guests can unwind and take in sweeping ocean views of Miyako Island.

Dining and amenities are plentiful. On the first floor, the all-day restaurant The Masan’s Beach House serves seasonal flavors of Miyako Island in a bright, open setting. Also on that floor, the dinner-only grill Chiki highlights Okinawan ingredients with focused, flavorful menus.

On the top floor, the rooftop bar Sunbear Day Club is the perfect spot for drinks and snacks while watching the Irabu Bridge and the sunset. Family-friendly features include the Shima Sprouts Play Zone for kids, a dedicated post-checkout lounge for guests waiting for flights, and a 24-hour fitness center with ocean views.

In May, the resort will open The Round, an outdoor picnic area with private booths designed for barbecues and pizza parties.

Guests can also enjoy perks from Hilton’s award-winning loyalty program, Hilton Honors. Members who book through official channels receive exclusive discounts, complimentary Wi‑Fi, and flexible points-and-cash payment options.

To extend membership benefits into daily life, Hilton offers two cobranded cards in partnership with American Express and Lotte Card.

Seiji Tanamachi, general manager of Canopy by Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort and the Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort cluster, said Miyako Island’s vibrant culture and stunning coastline make it an ideal setting to express Canopy by Hilton’s locally rooted hospitality.

He added that as travelers increasingly look for authentic local experiences alongside true relaxation, the resort is designed to pair the island’s laid-back charm with genuine local offerings—delivering restful stays and meaningful encounters with Okinawan culture.

Joseph Khairalla, vice president and head of Hilton’s Korea, Japan and Micronesia region, said, We’re thrilled to introduce a Canopy by Hilton resort on Miyako Island, home to one of Japan’s most celebrated beaches. We hope this property, which reflects Canopy’s signature local sensibility, becomes a fresh gateway to the island’s many charms and creates memorable moments for both travelers and residents.
