KTX vs SRT: Which High-Speed Train Will Revolutionize Your Travel Experience in 2023?
Daniel Kim Views
Get ready for a travel shake-up! Soon, you’ll be able to hop on a KTX from Suseo Station and an SRT from Seoul Station. This exciting pilot program for high-speed rail integration is about to give travelers more options than ever before.

Mark your calendars! The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Korea Railroad Corporation, and SR announced that ticket sales for this groundbreaking cross-operation pilot will kick off on the 11th, with trains rolling out on the 25th.
Here’s the scoop: KTX trains will depart from Suseo Station, while SRT trains will leave from Seoul Station. Both will make daily round trips to Busan, giving you more flexibility in your travel plans.
The spacious KTX, with room for 955 passengers, will leave Busan at 10:33 AM, arriving at Suseo Station at 1:08 PM. It’ll then depart Suseo at 1:55 PM, reaching Busan at 4:14 PM.
Not to be outdone, the sleek SRT, carrying 410 passengers, will depart Busan at 11:00 AM, pulling into Seoul Station at 1:47 PM. The return trip leaves Seoul at 2:19 PM, arriving in Busan at 4:50 PM.

Ready to book? You’ve got options! Use the Korail and SR mobile apps, websites, station counters, or ticket machines. But heads up: for online bookings, you’ll need to use different apps depending on your departure station. Booking KTX from Suseo? Use the Korail app or website. For SRT from Seoul Station, it’s the SR app and website. Don’t worry though – at the station, you can buy tickets for either train, no problem.
Now, let’s talk money. Great news: KTX fares from Suseo are getting a 10% discount, matching SRT prices. And SRT trips from Seoul Station? They’ll be about 10% cheaper than KTX. Just remember, since this is a trial run, you won’t earn KTX miles this time around.

This cross-operation is just the beginning of a bigger plan to streamline high-speed rail services. It’s all part of the integration roadmap announced last December. Since the 3rd, officials have been running tests to ensure everything’s running smoothly and safely.
During this pilot phase, they’re not just focusing on safety – they’re also keeping a close eye on the entire passenger experience, from booking to boarding. Your feedback will be crucial in shaping future improvements, including a unified fare system.
Kim Tae-byeong, the Railway Bureau chief at the Ministry, promises, “We’re working hard to make sure you’ll quickly feel the benefits of this integration, like more available seats. And of course, safety is our top priority – we’re double and triple-checking everything.”
Both Korail and SR are asking passengers to double-check their departure station and booking app to avoid any mix-ups during this transition period.
