[MyDaily = Reporter Kim Gun-ho] It makes sense to guarantee him more playing time before he starts pushing for a move.
British outlet Football Insider wrote on May 29 (KST) that with uncertainty growing around Mathys Tel’s future ahead of the summer transfer window, Tel should be a central figure in Roberto De Zerbi’s plans for next season.
Tel joined Tottenham on loan from Bayern Munich in February last year. The transfer stalled initially, but then-manager Ange Postecoglou personally pushed to bring him to the club.
He finished his first season with three goals and two assists in 20 appearances. Tottenham reportedly triggered a €35 million fee (about $37.45 million) with up to €10 million in add-ons (roughly $10.7 million).
Tel struggled for consistent impact again this season, recording four goals and two assists in 38 appearances. Still, De Zerbi turned to him late in the campaign, starting him in important matches as Spurs secured their Premier League status.
On May 25 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Tel started the season finale against Everton and logged 73 minutes.

Football Insider noted that Tel stood up to the pressure, creating more chances than any other player on the pitch (four), registering six touches inside Everton’s box and winning two fouls — contributions that helped Tottenham to a 1-0 win and lifted them out of the relegation zone.
The outlet added that De Zerbi clearly trusts Tel in decisive moments, and guaranteeing him more minutes next season — before Tel begins to seek an exit from North London — is a sensible move.
Tottenham are also pursuing Manchester City winger Sávio, a player who has primarily operated as a left forward this season and could occupy the same space as Tel.
Still, Football Insider pointed to De Zerbi’s past praise to argue that Tel shouldn’t be overly concerned about his place in the squad.
De Zerbi previously said Tel \”has shown an excellent reaction. He’s a very mature young man, and because he hasn’t played many games he might even be more mature off the pitch than on it. He’s a lovely player with a strong character, and he can grow into a great player for our team.\”
