▲ Europe’s biggest clubs are showing strong interest in Japan national team goalkeeper Zaion Suzuki. Reports say Manchester United (England), Bayern Munich (Germany), SSC Napoli (Italy) and Galatasaray (Türkiye) could join the chase for Suzuki this summer.
By Park Dae-hyun, SPOTV News — Europe’s major clubs are circling Japan goalkeeper Zaion Suzuki (24, Parma Calcio).
Sources suggest Manchester United (England), Bayern Munich (Germany), SSC Napoli (Italy) and Galatasaray (Türkiye) could all enter the race to sign Suzuki this summer.
Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb reported on the 24th (Korean time) that “Napoli, who finished second in this season’s Serie A, is leading the interest, with Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Galatasaray also keeping a close eye on Suzuki.”
While no formal negotiations have started, sources say a summer split between Suzuki and Parma is becoming increasingly likely. Still, Parma values Suzuki highly and won’t make a move easy, the report added.
Suzuki was on the bench but did not play in Parma’s final Serie A match, a 1-0 win over Sassuolo on the 24th.
He enjoyed a breakout season.
Suzuki started 20 league matches as Parma’s first-choice goalkeeper, kept six clean sheets and conceded 24 goals.
Standing 190 cm (about 6 ft 3 in) and weighing 100 kg (about 220 lb), Suzuki combines imposing size with natural strength, explosive reflexes and a powerful kick. That blend helped him establish himself this season as one of Serie A’s top goalkeepers.
Named to Japan’s final squad for the 2026 World Cup in North America, Suzuki has returned home to prepare for the international friendly against Iceland on the 31st.
▲ Zaion Suzuki has moved beyond being Japan’s “next-generation” keeper and now looks firmly established as the starting goalkeeper. He’s very likely to beat out Hayakawa Tomoka (27, Kashima Antlers) and Osako Keisuke (26, Sanfrecce Hiroshima) for the starting gloves at the World Cup.
Suzuki has transitioned from being viewed as a “next-generation” option to staking a solid claim as Japan’s first-choice keeper.
He’s the frontrunner to start at the World Cup, ahead of Hayakawa Tomoka (27, Kashima Antlers) and Osako Keisuke (26, Sanfrecce Hiroshima).
Born in August 2002, Suzuki is only 23 but has already earned 23 senior caps for one of Asia’s strongest teams.
Given that goalkeeping typically favors experience over youth, that number of appearances is significant.
Tuttomercatoweb noted that Suzuki made his international debut at 19 in 2022 and now ranks among the world’s topkeepers for his age group. The outlet called a move to a big club this summer “likely,” highlighting the bright future ahead.
▲ His development curve is steep. Born in August 2002 and only 23, he has already played 23 senior internationals for one of Asia’s top teams — a notable achievement for a position that typically favors older players.
