[MyDaily = Reporter Kim Geon-ho] This should be the final nail in the coffin.
Liverpool played Brentford to a 1-1 draw in the 38th round of the 2025–26 Premier League at Anfield on May 25 (Korean time).
Curtis Jones put Liverpool ahead 13 minutes into the second half, but six minutes later the Reds conceded a penalty that Kevin Schade converted, leaving Liverpool to take just one point from the season finale.
Last season’s champions invested roughly £440 million (about 897 billion KRW / $672.75 million) ahead of this campaign, yet they will finish the season without a trophy. Liverpool closed the league with a 17–9–12 record and 60 points, landing in fifth place. Their only consolation is qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Speculation over manager Arne Slot’s future has intensified, with AFC Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola among the names linked to the job.
Against that backdrop, former Liverpool midfielder Jermaine Pennant publicly urged the club’s board to dismiss Slot.

On social media, Pennant wrote: “The board must not sit in the directors’ box watching this absolute trash and conclude that this manager can compete for trophies next season. Barely holding on against Brentford — this should be the final nail in the coffin.”
Pennant said the result should seal Slot’s fate.
He added: “FSG (Fenway Sports Group), please read this — we played 18 matches, home and away, against the other top-nine teams and won only three. Yes, I said three. Do the right thing for the club and for these players. Your eyes are seeing exactly what we all see, and it’s terrible.”
