[MyDaily = Daejeon reporter Lee Jung-won] Ryu Hyun-jin hit a major milestone Tuesday, reaching 200 career wins across the KBO and Major League Baseball.
Hanwha Eagles manager Kim Kyung-moon joined in celebrating Ryu’s achievement.
On May 24 at Hanwha Life Impark in Daejeon, Hanwha defeated the Doosan Bears 5-2 to complete a series sweep in the 2026 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League. The victory moved Hanwha into sole possession of fifth place at 23 wins, 24 losses.
The game’s standout was Ryu, who worked 6 2/3 innings, allowed six hits, issued no walks, struck out three and surrendered two runs to reach 200 combined wins in Korea and the U.S. He now owns 122 KBO victories and 78 MLB wins. Ryu made his professional debut on April 12, 2006, against the LG Twins at Jamsil, throwing 7 1/3 scoreless innings with three hits and 10 strikeouts — a performance that immediately marked him as a phenom.
In his rookie year he captured the pitching Triple Crown, was named Rookie of the Year and earned MVP honors. He opened with 18 wins in 2006 and followed with 17 in 2007, 14 in 2008, 13 in 2009, 16 in 2010, 11 in 2011 and nine in 2012.

Ryu then moved to MLB, pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2013 through 2019, where he posted 14 wins in 2013, 14 in 2014, five in 2017, seven in 2018 and 14 in 2019. He joined the Toronto Blue Jays and logged five wins in 2020, 14 in 2021, two in 2022 and three in 2023. After returning to the KBO, Ryu won 10 games in 2024 and 9 in 2025. Adding five wins this season pushed him to the 200-win mark despite time missed for elbow surgery.
The club held an in-house ceremony after the game, and the congratulatory video featured former Hanwha players Cody Ponce (Toronto Blue Jays) and Ryan Weiss (Houston Astros).
After the game, Kim said, \”First, I want to congratulate Ryu Hyun-jin on his 200 combined wins in Korea and the U.S. He showed the leadership and performance of an ace for this team.\”

The offense backed Ryu’s outing. Lee Won-seok had two hits, one RBI and two runs scored; Peraza added two hits, including a home run, with one RBI and one run; Moon Hyun-bin contributed one hit and two RBIs.
Kim praised the team’s focus, saying, \”After two straight wins, the players didn’t let up. In the final game of the series they stayed locked in until the last moment and gave their best. Everyone worked hard.\”

Hanwha heads to Changwon for a three-game series against the NC Dinos. Doosan returns home to Jamsil to face the KT Wiz.
