By Kang Tae-gu, Sports Today Ha-Seong Kim (Atlanta Braves) turned a smart squeeze bunt into a hit, extending his hitting streak to three games.
On May 23 (Korean time) at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, Kim started at shortstop and batted eighth in a 2026 Major League Baseball game against the Washington Nationals, going 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run.
After recording a hit against the Miami Marlins on May 20, Kim pushed his streak to three consecutive games with a hit.
His season batting average rose from 0.115 to 0.129 (4-for-31).
In the bottom of the third, Kim opened the frame and worked a full count against starter Myles Mikolas before swinging through a fastball for a strikeout.
With two outs and a runner on in the fifth, Kim lined a ball to left-center, but Washington center fielder Jacob Young crashed into the wall and hauled it in.
Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, with one out and runners at the corners, Kim surprised the Nationals with a squeeze bunt. The bunt crept slowly toward the pitcher and turned into a hit.
Austin Riley scored from third on the play, giving Kim an RBI, but the Braves couldn’t add to the rally.
With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth and two outs with a runner at first, Kim came up for his fourth at-bat. Jorge Mateo’s stolen base into second set up a potential walk-off, but Kim grounded out to third.
In the 11th, with one out and a runner on second, Kim battled reliever Paxton Schultz in a seven-pitch duel and struck out.
Atlanta sealed a 5-4 victory when Chadwick Tromp delivered a walk-off hit.
The win extended Atlanta’s streak to four games and improved their record to 36-16, keeping them atop the National League East.
