[MyDaily = Reporter Kim Jong-guk] All eyes are on Pep Guardiola’s next destination as he prepares to part ways with Manchester City.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo and others reported on the 22nd that, while there has been no official announcement, Guardiola is expected to leave City this summer. The report says the manager has drawn interest from numerous clubs and national federations. Guardiola reportedly wants a one-year sabbatical, but enticing offers keep coming in. Federations from several countries are said to be courting him; Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are reportedly prepared to offer €90 million a year (approximately $96.3 million; about 158.4 billion KRW, approximately $118.8 million) to appoint him as a national-team coach.
The story added that Guardiola would become the highest-paid manager in football history. If he prefers to remain in club football, several Italian Serie A clubs are likely to pursue him — Juventus and AC Milan have both been linked with a move for the Spaniard.
British outlets, including the BBC, reported on the 20th that Guardiola has told club executives he will make a decision after consulting with them. Still, many expect him to leave at the end of the season, with Maresca emerging as a leading candidate to succeed him.
Guardiola said he has one year left on his contract but that, based on long conversations and his experience, announcing anything midseason usually ends badly. “The first person I have to speak with is the club chairman. We agreed to speak after the season and then make a decision,” he said, indicating he will outline his plans once the campaign concludes.
Guardiola has faced Son Heung-min several times in the Premier League and showed visible frustration during a 2023–24 match against Tottenham when Son missed a one-on-one opportunity. Guardiola famously flopped down in front of the bench in exasperation as Son squandered a crucial chance. “Everyone knows how much Son has troubled us over the past seven to eight years — and how many goals he and Harry Kane have scored against us,” Guardiola said.
