[Sports Today reporter Lee Sang-pil] Ketel Marte’s walk-off homer lifted the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Chase Field in Phoenix on May 20, 2026. The Giants were without outfielder Lee Jung-hoo, who was held out as a precaution.

San Francisco fell to 20-29 with the loss and remained fourth in the National League West. Arizona improved to 24-23 and stayed third in the division.

Lee did not play after exiting the previous game early. He had one hit in two at-bats the night before and was removed before the bottom of the fourth because of a back cramp. The club said they do not expect him to be placed on the injured list.

The team said a fuller update on Lee’s condition will be provided later.

Starter Landon Roop gave the Giants a quality start, going six innings while allowing seven hits, striking out three and surrendering one run. Rafael Devers and Willy Adames hit back-to-back homers, and San Francisco added a run later on a Matt Chapman single and a Daniel Susac double to take a 3-1 lead.

The bullpen could not close it out. Caleb Killian was charged with the loss after 1.1 innings, allowing two hits, striking out one and yielding three runs (two earned).

Arizona starter Ryan Nelson worked seven innings, giving up three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks; he left without a decision. Jonathan Loaisiga threw a scoreless inning and was credited with the win.

Arizona struck first in the game. In the top of the first, after one out, Corbin Carroll ripped a drive to center and raced to third. During San Francisco’s relay, the ball glanced off Carroll’s head and bounced away, allowing him to score. The play was scored a triple and an error on the defense.

The Giants answered in the second. Devers and Adames hit back-to-back homers to put San Francisco up 2-1, and Susac’s double following a Chapman single extended the lead to 3-1.

Roop’s pitching helped the Giants carry a two-run lead into the late innings, and they turned to the bullpen in the seventh to try to finish the job.

Arizona rallied in the ninth. With two outs and a runner on second, Adrian Del Castillo delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-2. A subsequent catcher’s interference call put runners at second and third with two outs.

The Giants replaced the struggling Killian with Matt Gage, but Marte lifted a low pitch over the left-field wall for a walk-off homer, sealing a 5-3 Arizona win.
