[Sports Today reporter Shin Seo-young] Kim Hye-seong (Los Angeles Dodgers) reached base multiple times but couldn’t avoid a loss as the Dodgers fell to the San Diego Padres. Song Seong-mun (San Diego Padres) was inserted late as a defensive replacement but did not bat.
Kim started at second base and hit ninth in Los Angeles’ road game at Petco Park on May 19, 2026. He finished 1-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout.
The multi-game on-base streak raised Kim’s season batting average slightly from 0.274 to 0.278 (97 at-bats, 27 hits).
He opened the game with a strikeout in the top of the third with two outs and the Dodgers trailing 0-1. Facing starter Michael King, Kim swung at King’s fourth pitch — an 86.7-mph (about 139.5 km/h) changeup — and struck out.
Kim replied in his second trip to the plate. With two outs in the top of the sixth, he turned on King’s third pitch, an 83.1-mph (about 133.7 km/h) sweeper, and laced a single to right.
He advanced to third on Shohei Ohtani’s infield hit and a throwing error by the catcher, but the rally stalled and he was left stranded.
In the top of the eighth, Kim showcased his plate discipline. With two outs, he worked an eight-pitch battle against reliever Jason Adam and drew a walk.
He moved to third on another Ohtani single, but Mookie Betts’ grounder produced an out and Kim did not score.
For San Diego, Song Seong-mun came in as a defensive substitute before the top of the eighth but did not record a plate appearance.
The game ended as a 1-0 pitchers’ duel in favor of San Diego. Miguel Andújar’s first-inning solo home run supplied the only run, and the Padres’ pitchers preserved the lead.
The win extended San Diego’s streak to four games and improved their record to 29-18, moving them a half-game ahead of the Dodgers (29-19) for first place in the National League West.
