[SportsToday reporter Lee Sang-pil] Ha-seong Kim (Atlanta Braves) snapped a five-game hitless streak.
Kim started at shortstop and hit ninth in Atlanta’s road game against the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park in Miami, Florida, on May 20 (Korean time). He went 1-for-4 with an RBI, a run and a walk.
Kim had been 0-for-13 over four games since going 1-for-3 against the Chicago Cubs on May 14. He ended the drought with a hit in his fifth game, nudging his season batting average from 0.053 to 0.087 (2-for-23).
In the top of the second, with one out and Atlanta trailing 2-3, he faced lefty starter Braxton Garrett and grounded out to third. In the top of the fourth, with two outs, he hit a grounder to the pitcher. In the top of the sixth, with two outs, he flew out to left.
Kim broke through in the top of the eighth. With one out and a runner on first, he drew a walk. Ronald Acuña Jr. then walked, moving Kim to second, and Mauricio Dubón’s single sent him to third. Matt Olson followed with a run-scoring hit that brought Kim home.
Later, in the top of the ninth with Atlanta leading 7-4 and two outs with runners on first and second, Kim delivered an RBI single to center that scored the runner from second. It was his first RBI of the season.
Atlanta defeated Miami 8-4.
The Braves improved to 33-16 to maintain first place in the National League East. The Marlins fell to 22-27.
