Son Heung-min provided another attacking impact with his left foot, but LAFC’s defensive problems persisted and the club dropped its third straight match.
Son started and registered an assist in LAFC’s MLS road game at Geodis Park in Nashville, Tennessee, on the 18th. LAFC fell 3-2 to Nashville SC.
Twenty-three minutes into the second half, Son delivered a precise left-corner cross that Denis Bouanga redirected into the net. It was Son’s ninth MLS assist of the season.
Son remains scoreless in MLS this campaign but leads the league with nine assists. Including CONCACAF Champions Cup matches, he has two goals and 16 assists in all competitions this season.
The result was marred by Hany Mukhtar’s hat trick for Nashville.
Mukhtar opened the scoring in the 13th minute and added a free-kick in the 21st. LAFC answered quickly through David Martínez, but 14 minutes into the second half Mukhtar struck again from a free kick, swinging the momentum back to Nashville.
Son and Bouanga combined to pull LAFC within one, but the visitors couldn’t find a late equalizer.
Son also created a major chance early. In the fifth minute he picked the ball up near the halfway line and drove forward on his own, but defenders closed him down and the goalkeeper saved his shot.
LAFC has lost three straight and sits seventh in the Western Conference. Nashville remained atop the Eastern Conference with 30 points.
After LAFC’s match against the Seattle Sounders on the 25th, Son will join South Korea coach Hong Myung-bo’s pre-camp in Salt Lake City. The upcoming World Cup will be Son’s fourth.
