[SPOTV News=Reporter Jang Ha-joon] Sei Young Kim moved into sole possession of the lead at the JM Eagle LA Championship, putting her on track for her first victory of the season.
In the second round at El Caballero Country Club in Los Angeles on the 18th (Korean time), Kim carded a 7-under 65 with seven birdies and no bogeys. Her 14-under 130 total put her atop the leaderboard.
She improved from a tie for second the day before, edging Jiji Iwai—who sits at 13-under—by one stroke to take the solo lead.
Kim’s form this season has been solid. She tied for 10th at the season opener, the Honda Thailand, and followed that with a tie for third at the Founders Cup, building steady momentum into this week.
Her round was near flawless. She birdied the first hole, added another at No. 3, then after a run of pars exploded on the back nine. She rattled off three straight birdies starting at No. 11 and added birdies at 16 and 17 to surge into the lead.
After the round, Kim said, “I was pleased with my play both yesterday and today. I had a lot of opportunities late in the round and I made the most of them. I’ll focus on continuing to make birdies over the remaining rounds.”
Ina Yoon also turned heads, climbing to third place. In her second season on tour, she used hot shot-making to vault up the leaderboard.
Starting on the 10th hole, Yoon piled up seven birdies on the front nine to create overwhelming momentum. It was the first time in her career she went 7-under on the front nine. “I only realized the number after I checked the leaderboard,” she said. “I was surprised, but I tried not to let it affect me.”
Lim Jin-hee is tied for fourth, while Lee Mi-hyang and Park Geum-kang share 15th. Hwang Yu-min made the cut and will continue in the tournament.
