By Kim Tae-hyung, Sports Today — Studio C1, the producer behind the web series Bulkkot Baseball, pushed back after a court rejected its objection to a provisional injunction in its copyright dispute with JTBC’s Choe-gang Baseball.
Star News reported on the 11th that the Seoul Central District Court’s 60th Civil Division on the 3rd dismissed Studio C1’s challenge to a provisional injunction that barred alleged copyright infringement and unfair competition. Studio C1 filed an appeal the same day.
Last December, the court granted JTBC’s request for a provisional injunction against Studio C1, prohibiting the production and distribution of Bulkkot Baseball episodes and related consecutive video content. Studio C1 filed an objection, but the court upheld the injunction.
Bulkkot Baseball is a web variety show produced by Studio C1. JTBC aired Choe-gang Baseball through its first three seasons, but after a dispute with Studio C1, the company parted ways and launched Bulkkot Baseball with much of the original cast. JTBC returned in September with a new production team and cast for a rebooted season of Choe-gang Baseball.
In February, JTBC said it would close out the season and conclude the series after airing the remaining episodes, a decision it said was independent of the legal dispute with Studio C1. Studio C1, meanwhile, announced plans to move forward with a second season of Bulkkot Baseball despite the court’s rejection of its objection to the injunction.
