[Sports Seoul | Reporter Lee So-young] Hanwha Eagles have inked a deal with the Korea Baseball Softball Association (KBSA) to boost amateur baseball.
The Eagles announced, “We’ve signed an agreement on the 10th at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon to make the ‘High School vs. College All-Star Game,’ which we’ve hosted for the past three years, a regular event.” Hanwha CEO Park Jong-tae and KBSA President Yang Hae-young were present at the signing ceremony.
This partnership aims to solidify the collaboration between Hanwha and KBSA for the All-Star Game while furthering their commitment to amateur baseball development.
With amateur baseball support dwindling since the full draft system was implemented, Hanwha has been exploring ways to provide backing beyond its home turf. Backed by KBSA, they’ve successfully organized the High School vs. College All-Star Game for three straight years.
Living up to its slogan ‘Game of the Dream,’ the All-Star Game has been praised for fostering amateur baseball growth, facilitating player exchanges, and offering a platform of hope for aspiring athletes.
The event has proven to be a springboard to the pros, with 107 out of 133 participants (80%) from the past three years making it to professional baseball. It’s also shining a spotlight on college talent, with more college all-stars landing developmental player contracts with pro teams.
KBSA President Yang said, “We’re deeply grateful to Hanwha for their genuine support in revitalizing amateur baseball. We hope this partnership motivates young players and builds a strong grassroots foundation for Korean baseball. The association is committed to establishing this tournament as a successful tradition.”
Hanwha CEO Park added, “We thank KBSA for helping us continue this meaningful High School vs. College All-Star Game, representing the KBO League. Hanwha remains dedicated to nurturing amateur baseball as the bedrock of the professional game.” sshong@sportsseoul.com
