Democratic Party of Korea candidates competing in the Seoul mayoral primary for the June 3 local elections appealed to party members and supporters for backing after the final primary debate on April 3.
Rep. Park Joo-min wrote on Facebook after the KBS-hosted second joint primary debate: “I’ll be blunt — help make a runoff happen.”
Park said the race should not end with today’s debate, arguing that a runoff is the beginning of a successful general-election campaign, and he urged voters to choose Park Joo-min in the final primary vote.
Rep. Jeon Hyun-hee wrote on Facebook that “now is the time to choose,” saying she has already been vetted by Yoon Suk Yeol’s administration. She said she is prepared with government and administrative experience and solid policy proposals, and urged voters to select Jeon Hyun-hee as the candidate best positioned to lead the Democratic Party to victory.
Former Seongdong District Mayor Jung Won-oh vowed to repay party members’ strong desire for victory with a win, saying he will deliver results no matter what obstacles arise. “I will win in Seoul to ensure the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration,” he added, thanking Rep. Park and Rep. Jeon and saying, “The Democratic Party is one team. We’ll win together.”
The final primary vote will be held April 7–9, with the outcome determined 50% by party-member votes and 50% by public opinion polls. If no candidate secures a majority, a runoff will be held April 17–19.
