The Democratic Party’s Gyeongnam Provincial Committee has awarded sole nominations for the county mayor races in Changnyeong and Goseong.
The party’s Candidate Management Committee announced on April 3 that it selected Park Tae-seung, CEO of Taewon Civil Engineering Design Office (53), as the Changnyeong county mayor candidate, and Baek Su-myeong, former Gyeongnam provincial assemblyman (59), as the Goseong county mayor candidate.
Earlier, the committee had already given sole nominations to former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo (58) for governor; former Tongyeong Mayor Kang Seok-ju (61) for mayor of Tongyeong; incumbent Geoje Mayor Byun Gwang-yong (60) for mayor of Geoje; Choi Chang-yeol, former head of the Geochang Livestock Cooperative (60), for Geochang county mayor; Choi Ho-rim, Sancheong county councilor (57), for Sancheong county mayor; Je Yoon-kyung, former lawmaker (54), for Hadong county mayor; and Jung Geum-hyo, Haman county councilor (64), for Haman county mayor.
The Gyeongnam committee will hold primaries on April 4–5 to choose candidates for seven municipal posts — Changwon, Gimhae, Jinju, Sacheon, Miryang, Namhae and Hamyang — and plans to finalize those nominees on April 6. In Uiryeong, the committee is currently reviewing applicants. In Hapcheon, it is soliciting candidates.
In Yangsan, where eight people applied for the party nomination, the Democratic Party will hold a party-member preliminary on April 4–5 to narrow the field to four, who will then advance to the main primary.
