Election Scandal: Local Councilor Faces Prosecution for Offering Free Concerts to 400 Attendees

The Jeonbuk Election Commission said on the 26th that it filed a criminal complaint with prosecutors against a local council member identified as A, accusing him of offering a free professional performance to attendees at his constituency report meeting.
In February, A reportedly hired a professional musician for the event and provided a free performance valued at about 1,000,000 KRW (approximately $750) to roughly 400 constituents who attended.
Article 113 of the Public Official Election Act prohibits local council members from making donations or gifts to people within their electoral districts. Violators can face up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 10,000,000 KRW (approximately $7,500).
The Jeonbuk commission said it will take strict action against serious election offenses that undermine the electoral order and urged voters who witness unlawful campaign activity to report it.
