
Jeong Wang-ryong, the 62-year-old Deputy Chair of the Policy Committee for the Democratic Party, has announced his bid for the mayorship of Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province.
On the 10th, Jeong declared his candidacy for the Gimpo mayoral race, stating, “I am committed to shaping Gimpo’s next decade. My goal is to transform Gimpo into a pivotal city that propels the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration.”
He emphasized his intention to leverage his experience in bridging policy and practical implementation for Gimpo’s benefit, citing his role as vice-chair of the Special Committee on Education during Lee Jae-myung’s tenure as party leader.
Jeong’s campaign promises include extending Seoul Subway Line 5 and Incheon Subway Line 2 to Gimpo, underground construction of the Gyeyang Expressway, and developing the Han River 2 Compact City and Daegot Environmental Regeneration Innovation Complex.
His previous roles include serving as a specialist on the Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development, a two-term Gimpo city councilor, an advisor on agricultural and marine policies for Gyeonggi Province, and president of the Chung-Ang University Democratic Alumni Association.
