[MyDaily = Reporter Chun Ju-young] On May 30, pianist Kim Ye-chan will join composer Andy Zhan for an ensemble concert presenting a piano sextet that blends New Age sensibilities with classical chamber techniques.
The ensemble centers on the piano and features two violins, a viola, a cello and a double bass. The program highlights signature Andy Zhan pieces — “Waltz of the Heart,” “Andante” and “A Deep Breath” — each arranged to emphasize the strings’ rich harmonic textures.
The collaboration expands the original compositions into a more dimensional chamber sound for the piano sextet. Musicians focused on preserving the natural lyricism of the strings to intensify the emotional narrative Zhan pursues.
Kim Ye-chan, who participated in the project, said, “We devoted ourselves to reinterpreting the lyricism in Andy Zhan’s work through ensemble phrasing. We hope the performance leaves a lasting impression on the audience.”
Closing out May, the concert aims to demonstrate new possibilities for contemporary New Age music through the interplay of strings and keyboards.
