Mini fifth EP drops at 6 p.m. on April 28
If we don’t make the music we love, that energy won’t reach listeners — the group’s distinct color is sharpened by members’ contributions to lyrics, toplines and beats
82MAJOR chose love as the theme for a title track for the first time. They retain their raw energy and freewheeling style but add a more restrained sound and a mature tone to reveal a new side. The members expressed confidence about the comeback, saying they believe making music they love is essential for that energy to connect with audiences.
At a media showcase for their mini fifth EP FEELM held at YES24 Wonderock Hall in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of April 28, 82MAJOR said the new record will reveal another facet of the group. Kim Do-gyun described the album title as a blend of “feel” and “film,” intended to capture a range of emotions the way film preserves moments.
The title track “Sign” pairs a dreamlike melody with a restrained beat to portray the exchange of feelings and two people drawing closer — framed in the lyrics as a signal between you and me. Built around a catchy hook, the song aims to showcase 82MAJOR’s more mature charm. Nam Seong-mo said, “I think we can show a new kind of cool that’s unique to 82MAJOR. The memorable melody laid over the restrained beat highlights our maturity.”
Park Seok-jun singled out the chorus choreography as the performance’s standout moment. “During the chorus, there’s a wrist movement in the ‘tiki-tiki-tak’ section,” he said. “The gesture directs attention to the wristwatch; that’s the key moment.” Kim Do-gyun added, “We focused on the idea of maturity and tried various approaches. The members executed them well, so those moments stood out.”
The members were unanimous about why they chose this song as the lead single. Hwang Seong-bin explained, “Challenging ourselves with new music and doing what we love lets that energy reach the public. Preparing ‘Sign’ was really fun, and we felt that energy would connect with listeners, so we made it the title track.”
Nam Seong-mo added, “The ‘tiki-tiki-tak’ hook kept playing in my head. I felt we had to make it the title so we could show it off.” Jo Seong-il said the selection process involved both the group and company staff listening to many tracks together. “‘Sign’ stood out — its chorus is addictive and it represents a fresh attempt that many listeners will enjoy,” he said.
The album contains five tracks. Yoon Ye-chan described the intro, “W.T.F,” as short but fully packed with charm, calling it the track that feels most like 82MAJOR. “Many of our songs draw on heavy bass and EDM influences,” he said. “‘W.T.F’ also features heavy bass and a punchy kick, so it represents our sound. I contributed to the beat as well.”
About the fourth track, “CIRCLES,” Hwang Seong-bin said, “We tried to express love passionately in this song. I want fans — ETI, short for ‘Attitude’ — to listen with that in mind.”
82MAJOR took an active role in creating the album. Yoon Ye-chan emphasized, “We don’t just write lyrics; we write toplines and work on beats — that’s our strength.” Park Seok-jun added, “We love making our own music and take the process seriously. Participating in songwriting and composition for the tracks shows how focused we are, and that’s an advantage for the team.”
Jo Seong-il pointed to the group’s teamwork as another strength. “Except for our youngest member Kim Do-gyun, we’re all the same age, and even the youngest brings a lot of energy,” he said. “Whether we’re joking around or working on songs, our teamwork is strong. When someone suggests an idea, we give clear feedback and aren’t afraid to be direct — and that leads to good music.”
Making love the central theme is itself a change for the group. Nam Seong-mo said, “This is the first time we’ve made love the title theme, so we thought it would show a new side of us and chose ‘Sign’.” Hwang Seong-bin added, “The album explores love overall. I hope many people can give and receive love through our songs. My personal goal is for listeners to reflect on the forms of love we present.”
They also expressed hopes that the song will inspire a social-media challenge. Jo Seong-il said the choreographers created a routine that should make the “tiki-tiki-tak” moment easy to replicate. Nam Seong-mo named actor Lee Byung-hun as someone he’d like to film a challenge with, joking about reenacting the iconic wrist-twist from the film Inside Men. Park Seok-jun recalled that BTS member Jungkook once reposted their Instagram content; “Out of gratitude, I’d love to try it together,” he said.
They sent a message to overseas fans, too. Yoon Ye-chan said, “We’re preparing an overseas tour. ETI fans abroad, please wait for us — we’ll be there soon.” On their comeback goals, Jo Seong-il was candid: “This comeback season is intense, but we want to show our music to more people, earn strong results on music shows, and chart so we can reach a wider audience.” He added, “We’ll keep growing on the foundation of strong music, and we want to share those results with more people.”
Meanwhile, 82MAJOR’s mini fifth EP FEELM is scheduled for release at 6 p.m. today.
