Singer Younha opened up about the backstory of her song “Waiting,” and the episode marked the series’ first-ever replay on Hidden Singer 8.
On the evening of the 7th, JTBC’s variety series Hidden Singer 8 featured Younha as the original artist, where she went head-to-head with multiple impersonators.
The first round focused on Younha’s “Waiting.” She revealed she wrote the song at 17, surprising the studio when she confessed, “I wrote it thinking about the older guy I had my first crush on.” She recalled seeing the imprint left on a bench where a couple had sat around Christmas, which made her miss him and inspired the song. “I sat down at the piano and worked hard to turn it into something I could copyright,” she joked.
When the first round began, the judging panel became confused — prompting Hidden Singer 8 to allow a replay for the first time in the series. Younha added to the tension by telling the panel, “I was hurt nine times and smiled once.”
JTBC’s Hidden Singer 8 is a new-concept music program that pits South Korea’s leading singers against impersonators who can perfectly mimic their voices and vocal styles. The show airs every Tuesday at 8:50 PM.
