[Sports Today reporter Im Si-ryeong] President Lee Jae-myung praised BTS’s performance at Gwanghwamun.
At a cabinet meeting at the Blue House on the 24th, Lee called the March 21 “BTS Comeback Live: Arirang” concert at Seoul’s Gwanghwamun Square decisive in promoting both the square and South Korea.
“I expect more foreign tourists will now come to Gwanghwamun,” he said, adding, “The planners did a good job and the event ran smoothly. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety and other relevant agencies worked hard. They managed safety well, and there were no accidents.”
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young, who attended the meeting, said the live stream drew the attention of young people around the world to Gwanghwamun in central Seoul. “I believe it delivered an immeasurable boost to the global spread of K-culture,” he said.
Choi also noted that March tourist arrivals rose roughly 31% year over year, with particularly strong gains among people in their teens and twenties.
BTS staged “BTS Comeback Live: Arirang” at Gwanghwamun Square at 8 p.m. on the 21st. The event marked the group’s first full-lineup comeback in about four years after members completed mandatory military service. Attendance was reported at 44,000 by Seoul city officials and 104,000 (HYBE 집계).
