[Sports Today reporter Yoon Hye-young] The executive producer of BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE emphasized the significance of choosing Gwanghwamun as the event’s setting.
On the morning of March 20, a pre-media briefing for BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE: ARIRANG was held at Cinecube Gwanghwamun in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Attendees included Brandon Riegg, Netflix vice president for Nonfiction Series and Sports; Kim Hyun-jung, vice president at Big Hit Music; Yoo Dong-ju, APAC head of HYBE Music Group; and Garrett English, the show’s executive producer.
BTS will release their fifth full-length album, ARIRANG, on March 20 at 1 p.m. KST — their first full-group album in three years and nine months. The following day, March 21 at 8 p.m., they will perform BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE|ARIRANG around Gwanghwamun Square in Jongno. Netflix will stream the concert live to viewers in 190 countries and territories.
At the briefing, executive producer Garrett English said that from the project’s earliest discussions the team focused on how best to marry tradition and modernity. \”We spent a lot of time collaborating and designing to achieve that balance,\” he said.
\”Our goal was to realize BTS’s vision while honoring the historical significance of Gwanghwamun,\” he added. \”We worked carefully to highlight treasured sites like Gwanghwamun and Gyeongbokgung Palace, while integrating BTS’s contemporary elements.\”
He went on to say the team aimed not just to showcase Seoul to a global audience but to present it as a dynamic, living city. \”Our top priority was harmonizing the historical space and its history,\” he said. \”It was an honor to be part of this process.\”
