Among the athletes competing in the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, one American luger is making waves not just on the ice, but in the dating scene as well. Sofia Kirkby, a 24-year-old member of the U.S. women’s luge team, has caught the attention of fans and fellow athletes alike with her unique approach to finding romance.
Kirkby recently took to social media to announce her search for a Valentine’s Day date on February 14. In a surprising turn of events, she received an overwhelming response, with more than 600 men sliding into her DMs across various platforms over just three days.
On February 10, Kirkby treated her Instagram followers to a candid video where she reviewed some of the messages from her eager suitors.
The young Olympian had previously shared that she was on the lookout for a potential date within the Olympic Village. However, she playfully added that if she couldn’t find her match among fellow athletes, she’d be open to connecting with a fan.
The video showcases Kirkby’s genuine surprise and excitement at the unexpected deluge of date requests. With a touch of humor, she teased that she might personally reach out to promising candidates to arrange meet-ups.
Kirkby is scheduled to compete alongside her teammate, 25-year-old Sibon Fogan, until February 12 (local time).
Looking ahead to Valentine’s Day, which falls right after her competition, Kirkby shared her hopes for a romantic rendezvous. “After the race, it’ll be Valentine’s Day. I’m thinking we’ll share a cappuccino, and I’ll give him a pin badge I made myself,” she mused. With a twinkle in her eye, she added, “Who knows? Love might just be in the air.”
