[The Fact | Byeong-geun Jeong] Top executives from major entertainment companies gathered to dissect the Japanese music market through data-driven insights.

Luminate and Creators Network co-hosted the ‘2026 Korea Music Data Summit’ at K-Town For You in Seoul’s COEX on February 6.

The summit, themed ‘Bridging Borders Through Music,’ zeroed in on practical, data-driven global music strategies with a focus on the Japanese market. The event drew over 50 professionals from domestic entertainment powerhouses, including HYBE, SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and YG Entertainment, specializing in global marketing and data analysis.

Sang-hyun Shin, CEO of Creators Network, kicked off the event by spotlighting the seismic shifts in the Japanese market with hard numbers. “Japan saw a staggering 14.2 billion increase in premium streaming volume last year,” Shin revealed. “That’s equivalent to the entire annual premium streaming volume of Taiwan or Thailand, achieved in Japan in just one year.”

Shin emphasized, “While Japan remains the most crucial expansion market for K-pop, relying solely on gut feelings or past experiences is no longer sufficient. This summit aims to provide a data-driven framework for understanding the Japanese market and developing actionable strategies.”

Throughout the day, attendees were treated to a wealth of data insights spanning both the global and Japanese music markets. Adrian Sarosi, Luminate’s global business head, delved into shifts in fan behavior and market dynamics based on comprehensive music consumption data.

Rupinder Singh, head of strategy and insights at Warner Music Japan, offered a deep dive into the Japanese music market’s unique structure and superfan consumption patterns. Singh highlighted Japan’s distinctive ecosystem where streaming, physical sales, and live performances coexist harmoniously.

Creators Network’s sessions focused on translating data into tangible business outcomes. CDO Jeong-beom Kim presented case studies on interpreting Japanese market data and developing execution strategies, while CBDO Ui-seong Son explored the intricate connections between fandom, localization, and revenue models for cross-border artists and music IP between Korea and Japan.

In addressing how to navigate Japan’s role in the rapidly evolving global music landscape, the summit presented a clear answer: data. The approach to the Japanese market is shifting from intuition-based decisions to strategies grounded in structure, metrics, and strategic planning.

Building on the success of this summit, Luminate and Creators Network plan to expand their series of discussions on data-driven global music strategies, with a particular focus on the Asian market.
