U.S. forces disabled an empty, Iran-bound tanker with a missile after the vessel tried to evade a U.S. “reverse blockade” in the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on X on the 2nd, local time, that it took blocking action against the Botswana-flagged tanker M/T Lexi as the ship transited international waters en route to Iran’s Kharg Island. Kharg Island is Iran’s largest crude oil export hub. CENTCOM said the ship’s crew ignored repeated warnings over a 24-hour period and failed to comply with multiple U.S. military orders. U.S. aircraft then struck the vessel, firing a precision air-to-surface AGM-114 Hellfire missile into the ship’s engine room, rendering it unable to reach Iran. Since April 13, U.S. forces have enforced a blockade around the Strait of Hormuz on all vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports or coastal waters. CENTCOM said it has neutralized six civilian commercial ships and turned back 122 vessels since the blockade began. #HormuzStrait #US #blockade #Iran #missile Yonhap TV news tips and inquiries: KakaoTalk/LINE jebo23; Jiyun Lee (easyun@yna.co.kr)
