Pressure to Dismiss Lawsuit Blocking Construction
President Donald Trump is pressing to build a White House event hall he says must include a drone landing-and-takeoff facility — a droneport shown in a rendering — to bolster security in Washington, D.C.
On the 31st (local time), Trump posted on Truth Social that “the droneport at the White House event hall will probably be the world’s most sophisticated facility,” and that “this facility will keep our capital, Washington, D.C., safe for a very long time.”
He argued that “with very sophisticated and powerful modern weapons emerging, we can no longer defend Washington, D.C., with rifles and handguns alone.” On May 19, he invited White House reporters to the event-hall construction site and unveiled detailed plans, saying the entire roof is being designed for military use. He said the roof will be higher than neighboring buildings and is intended to function as a droneport, allowing coverage of the city from the rooftop.
Trump has also attacked the judge who ordered construction halted and demanded the lawsuit seeking to block the project be dismissed.
Aiming at U.S. District Judge Richard Leon, who issued the initial stop-work order, Trump said, “Judge Leon must stop playing games with America’s security,” and warned, “If anything happens, he should be held responsible for the deaths and destruction brought to our country.”
Trump accused Leon of creating problems at the district-court level by allowing what he called the release of “top-secret” information based on a frivolous lawsuit filed by a habitual litigant — a woman who claimed the facility would interfere with her walks.
Separately, Trump said a recent physical exam showed he is in excellent health and that he scored a perfect mark on a cognitive test.
On Truth Social he wrote, “Previous presidents did not take a high-difficulty cognitive test, but I scored 30 out of 30 four times in a row,” and he argued that all presidential and vice-presidential candidates should be required to take such a test.
