Authorities recovered an explosive device discovered in a stream near Gunwi County, Daegu.
Police said they received a report at about 2:35 p.m. on the 5th of a suspected explosive roughly 50 m (about 164 ft) downstream from Masagyo Bridge on Sachangcheon in Gokok-ri, Hyoryeong-myeon, Gunwi County. Children playing in the water found the object.
The military’s explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team inspected the scene and tentatively identified the item as a Soviet-made 76mm high-explosive shell believed to date from the Korean War.
Military and police personnel secured the area and safely recovered the shell at about 4:20 p.m.
