Changwon, in South Gyeongsang Province, held a memorial on March 26 for the late Warrant Officer Han Ju-ho in front of his statue at Jinhaeru Beach Park in Jinhae District, marking the 16th anniversary of the ROKS Cheonan attack.
The ceremony proceeded quietly, with a moment of silence, wreath-laying, a eulogy and a performance by the Republic of Korea Navy band.
Family members, naval officials, members of the National Assembly and local councils, and citizens attended to honor Warrant Officer Han’s sacrifice.
Warrant Officer Han died on March 30, 2010, while conducting rescue operations for sailors missing after the ROKS Cheonan sank off Baengnyeong Island in the Yellow Sea.
Changwon holds an annual memorial on March 26 to recognize Han’s dedication and service to the nation.
Jang Geum-yong, acting mayor of Changwon, said Warrant Officer Han Ju-ho’s noble sacrifice and devotion will never be forgotten, and added that the city will continue efforts to preserve his legacy and express gratitude and respect to all who serve the country.
