| Becoming a Legendary Cook / Photo: TVING |
[By Jeong Ye-won, Sports Today] Park Ji-hoon, as a low-ranking private, is winning over his unit with S-grade cooking.
TVING’s original series Becoming a Legendary Cook premieres domestically and globally on May 11. The streamer released a teaser introducing Kang Seong-jae, hinting at the birth of a private who will become a legendary cook.
The teaser opens with Kang Seong-jae (Park Ji-hoon), a fresh recruit bound for his unit, looking awkward as he arrives. Rather than grand visions of heroic sacrifice, he is met with skeptical stares from senior soldiers.
Before he can even settle in, one line—”I can cook ramen!”—accidentally lands Kang Seong-jae the role of unit cook. The instant he steps into the pantry, an almost mystical energy takes over. He slices with the precision of a fine-dining chef and wields the wok with fearless authority, producing mouthwatering dishes that leave his fellow soldiers in awe.
Even when faced with flapping chickens, his gaze sharpens like a seasoned master the moment he lifts a knife, and his work brings new life to the Kangnim outpost. As Kang Seong-jae says, “Delicious food made with sincerity moves people’s hearts,” and mealtime becomes a real morale boost for everyone on base. Viewers will be curious about the culinary tricks behind his ability to lift soldiers’ spirits.
In the teaser’s final moments, Kang Seong-jae breaks into a bright smile as an unfamiliar voice says, “Welcome, warrior.” That warm greeting leaves viewers wondering who is truly welcoming Private Kang Seong-jae.
The military cooking-fantasy drama Becoming a Legendary Cook follows Private Kang Seong-jae as he swaps his rifle for a chef’s knife and his ammo belt for an apron. Adapted from the popular Naver webtoon of the same name, the series premieres on TVING and tvN on May 11 at 8:50 p.m. KST.
