[Sports Today reporter Lim Si-ryeong] Bae Seong-woo, the lead of The Final Investigation, issued an apology and expressed remorse for past mistakes while also thanking the director and co-stars who supported him.
On March 26, reporters gathered at a cafe in Jongno, Seoul, for an interview about the film The Final Investigation (directed by Park Cheol-hwan; produced by Cheongnyeon Film).
The Final Investigation centers on Detective Jae-hyuk (Bae Seong-woo), demoted to a rural post and given one last chance. To identify the true perpetrator in a murder case involving two suspects, he returns to Seoul with rookie detective Jung-ho (Jeong Ga-ram), embarking on a final, high-stakes investigation.
The film was originally shot in 2019 under the title Business Trip Investigation and was slated for release, but the COVID-19 pandemic and Bae’s drunk-driving controversy delayed its debut for seven years.
Speaking about director Park Cheol-hwan, Bae said Park had been deeply affected and, in turn, offered him support. \”After we finished shooting, we stayed in touch and met from time to time. Before the release he told me, ‘It’s been a while editing together — it looks like it turned out fun.’ I was grateful,\” Bae said, adding, \”So far, all I’ve been able to do is buy him a meal.\”
Reuniting with co-stars Jeong Ga-ram, Jo Han-chul and Yoon Kyung-ho was emotional, he said. \”It had been a long time since we’d worked together. Ga-ram looked even sharper. There were moments when I felt apologetic and awkward, but the actors kept it professional and treated me naturally,\” he said.
On Yoon Kyung-ho, Bae noted that the actor has been upbeat and energetic about promoting the film. \”He’s been really active in publicity. He’s the kind of person who says, ‘Let’s give it our all,’ and pushes forward,\” Bae said.
The conversation also touched on Bae’s younger brother, announcer Bae Seong-jae, who married last May. \”We’ve always been a bit awkward with each other since childhood. Family can make those things more complicated,\” Bae said cautiously.
He added, \”I’m sure he went through some emotional hardship, and I feel sorry about that. But he’s doing well now, and that makes me happy.\”
The Final Investigation opens on April 2.
