Singer Gu Jun-yeop recently commemorated the first anniversary of his late wife Seo Hee-won’s passing. Amidst swirling rumors of an inheritance dispute, the family vehemently denied these claims, branding them as “malicious gossip.”
On February 10th, Taiwanese media outlet TVBS reported that local sources alleged Seo Hee-won’s mother had retained legal counsel to prevent Gu Jun-yeop from inheriting. Some outlets even speculated that both parties were gearing up for a legal battle.
Seo Hee-won’s brother, actor Seo Hee-je, lashed out at the rumors through his agency, stating, “Those spreading such gossip are truly malevolent and have twisted minds. My brother-in-law gave my sister pure love and brought her genuine happiness. We are eternally grateful to him.”

The family further emphasized, “Gu Jun-yeop is part of our family. We will never harm him; we will only protect him. Please, we implore you to stop spreading these baseless rumors.”
Previously, Gu Jun-yeop had addressed the inheritance issue, stating that all of Seo Hee-won’s assets were “precious fruits of her labor for her family,” indicating his intention to transfer his legal inheritance rights to her mother.
Gu Jun-yeop and the late Seo Hee-won had a brief romance in 1998, dating for a year before parting ways due to their hectic schedules. Their paths crossed again in 2021 when Gu, upon learning of Seo Hee-won’s divorce, reached out to her using her old contact information.
The couple announced their marriage in March 2022, opting for a simple civil ceremony rather than a lavish wedding. Tragically, Seo Hee-won passed away from acute pneumonia during a trip to Japan on February 2 of the following year. On the first anniversary of her passing, a memorial statue for Seo Hee-won was unveiled at the Jinbao Mountain Memorial Park in New Taipei City.
