This Italian-produced racing drama
offers a taste of the familiar,
offers a taste of the familiar,
but doesn’t break new ground. It’s a fictional tale that follows a well-worn path, reminiscent of Brad Pitt’s “F1: The Movie.” Like many racing dramas centered on middle-aged protagonists, it adheres to a predictable formula.
The plot revolves around a former racing prodigy, now past his prime, who returns as a team coach seeking redemption.
The narrative isn’t solely male-centric. We meet the impossibly handsome Arturo, who’s in a tight spot, and Elena, a member of the prestigious Dionisi family, who’s equally desperate to prove herself after a past mishap involving her father’s car. Then there’s the young, gifted Blue, eager to make his mark.
Each character harbors dreams of a spectacular comeback.
While the character dynamics are intriguing, the overused plot fails to offer anything fresh. The biggest letdown? The racing scenes lack the wow factor you’d expect. Some visual effects are decent, but the overall filming feels lackluster. The absence of drone shots, a staple in modern racing content, is particularly noticeable. It’s a shame that a racing drama skimps on its most crucial element – the races themselves.
