[Variety] The highly anticipated performance of “Life of Pi,” starring acclaimed actor Park Jung-min, was unexpectedly canceled just moments before curtain call, leaving audiences stunned.
Variety has learned that on the evening of the 10th, the licensed production scheduled for 7:30 PM was abruptly called off, mere minutes before showtime.
An insider revealed to Variety, “The cancellation was announced to a full house without any substantial explanation. The lack of an apology or proper guidance, coupled with immediate refund procedures, led to significant confusion among attendees. Many had traveled from out of state, resulting in a palpably tense atmosphere at the venue.”
Originally set to commence at 7:30 PM, the shocking news of cancellation was delivered to the audience at 7:25 PM. Sources close to the production cite technical difficulties as the reason for the last-minute decision.
“Life of Pi” is a captivating tale that follows Pi, a young boy who finds himself stranded on a lifeboat in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker for 227 days after a catastrophic shipwreck during his family’s journey from India to Canada. Based on Yann Martel’s bestselling novel, which has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, the story also enjoyed tremendous success as a film adaptation in South Korea in 2013.
The production features a talented ensemble cast, with Park Jung-min and Park Kang-hyun alternating in the lead role of Pi. Supporting roles are brought to life by Seo Hyun-cheol, Hwang Man-ik, Joo Ah, and Song In-seong.
