[TourKorea = Reporter Seong-ran Jo] This May, hotels and resorts are ditching the \”just a place to sleep\” vibe and turning into playful day destinations.

Think rooftop chimaek pop-ups with fried chicken and craft beer, resort grounds dotted with character photo spots and branded pop-up shops, immersive family exhibitions, and limited-edition merch drops. From quick after-work terrace pints to full-on family outings, the lineup for Family Month just got a whole lot more tempting.

Premium chimaek on city rooftops

Courtyard Marriott Seoul Times Square is rolling out a seasonal rooftop promotion called Moonbear Rooftop Chimaek feat. Kyochon 1991, a collaboration between Kyochon Chicken and Moonbear Brewing.

The hotel at Yeongdeungpo Times Square teams up with Korea’s beloved chicken brand Kyochon and craft brewer Moonbear to deliver an elevated chimaek experience on an urban rooftop. Expect signature dishes and bold craft beers served together for a limited-time dining event.

The rooftop runs for roughly four weeks starting May 15, every Friday and Saturday evening from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the hotel’s 15th-floor outdoor garden. If the weather turns, the vibe moves indoors to Momo Bar so the party keeps going.

The real draw: unlimited Moonbear draft beer. The lineup features Moonbear’s distinct brews—Windy Hill Lager (a traditional German-style lager), Deep Night Pale Ale (rich and full-bodied), Sovin Blanc IPA (bright, aromatic), and Moscato Sweet Ale (a sweeter, easy-drinking option).

Paired with the beers is a Kyochon-centered platter available in two- and three-person sets. Alongside the chicken you’ll find arancini, truffle fries, cassava chips, salad, popcorn and other snacks built for sharing over a cold beer.

If you prefer a more casual indoor option, the hotel offers a Beer Sampler Kit at Momo Bar through August 31, available from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The kit includes three 250ml pours of Moonbear’s flagship beers and a tasting platter featuring chirungji, popcorn, cassava chips, truffle fries and three dipping sauces.

Inspire turns the resort into a must-shoot spot with Janmang Loopy

Inspire Entertainment Resort is aiming squarely at Family Month by teaming up with the popular character Janmang Loopy and unveiling season two of its media-art exhibition, Le Space Inspire.

Across the resort, Inspire has transformed key spaces into playful experiences featuring Janmang Loopy. Look for the character’s signature cute moments at Discovery Park, Brasserie 1783 (a casual dining and bakery spot), and the indoor waterpark Splash Bay.

On weekends throughout May and on the 4th and 5th, Brasserie 1783 will give away Janmang Loopy goods to the first guests who spend more than 50,000 KRW (about $37.50). It’s a tasty incentive for character fans and families who love a good photo opp and collectible.

There’s also an outdoor activation called May Discovery Park Photo Moments with Janmang Loopy. Snap a pic with Janmang Loopy at Discovery Park, post it to Instagram, and you’ll be entered to win prizes like Inspire hotel stays, Le Space tickets, or an Inspire whale light. Anyone who meets Janmang Loopy at Discovery Park can join in.

Le Space Season 2 debuts ICE PLANET

Le Space Inspire, the large-scale media-art exhibition, launches its second season—ICE PLANET—in May.

If season one sent visitors through a new galaxy, season two follows Yeti, a gate-creating character, on a journey from the snowflake star back to Earth. It’s immersive entertainment designed for kids and adults alike, offering resort guests a whimsical, family-friendly experience for the month.

To celebrate the season, Inspire has themed treats—Horizon Lounge is offering limited-edition mousse cakes, sand cookies and chocolates inspired by the ICE PLANET world. Plus, the Inspire Spanish Stair hosts an offline pop-up through May 14 with a 100% prize promotion where guests can win hotel stays, Le Space tickets or discount vouchers.

An Inspire spokesperson said, “For Family Month we prepared collaborations with a popular character and a new season of Le Space to give guests special memories. We hope our differentiated ‘playcation’ content—available only at Inspire—lets guests enjoy both fun and relaxation and recharge their daily lives.”

Jeju Shinhwa World targets families with Paldo and Sanrio Characters pop-ups

Jeju Shinhwa World is staging family-friendly branded pop-ups throughout May. From global characters to beloved food brands, these collaborations are meant to make a Jeju getaway feel even more special.

A Paldo pop-up runs in the Shinhwa Hall lobby all month from noon to 7:30 PM. On site, guests can try The Blue Chadol Bibimmyeon—a special take on Paldo’s new Bibimmyeon The Blue, reimagined with Jeju Shinhwa World’s chef recipe.

The Blue Chadol Bibimmyeon pairs chewy noodles, a clean sauce and savory beef brisket and is exclusive to the Jeju Shinhwa World pop-up. The menu also includes family-friendly Korean snacks like tteokbokki, fish cake and shrimp fried rice.

Interactive elements include noodle-coloring activities, a prize-wheel giveaway and a sales zone offering popular Paldo products on site.

Character fans get their fix too: the Jeju Air X Sanrio Characters pop-up runs through July 31 and features limited-edition Sanrio merchandise dressed in Jeju Air uniforms—think Captain Hello Kitty, Hello Kitty flight attendant, My Melody flight attendant, Kuromi flight attendant and Cinnamoroll captain—perfect for collectors.

Photo zones amplify the travel excitement, and on Children’s Day buyers can enjoy special activities like face painting—making it a family-friendly draw.

Jeju-flavored offerings continue at the Jito’s Forest pop-up, where a local Jeju webtoon artist will draw instant caricatures, letting guests capture a one-of-a-kind travel moment. Jeju Shinhwa World aims to blend characters, dining and hands-on activities to make stays more fun.
