“You can take in the whole Incheon coastline at once — it made for a really special weekend.”

Around 1 p.m. on the 9th, The Sky 184’s parking lot was nearly full. The observatory on Cheongna Haneul Bridge in Incheon’s Seo District drew families celebrating Parents’ Month. Groups of relatives parked and headed up to enjoy the striking mix of open sea and city skyline.

Perched 184 meters (about 604 ft) above ground, the observatory is listed in the Guinness World Records as the world’s highest sea-bridge observatory. From the deck, Cheongna International City and Yeongjong International City stretch out in sweeping panoramas. A mannequin dressed in the gear for “Edgewalk,” which begins full operation on the 15th, also caught visitors’ attention.

Forty-three-year-old Shin Yu-jin said she booked a spot four days in advance after hearing about the view. “The scenery, true to its world-record status, makes my mother so happy,” she said. “With the limit of 20 visitors per hour, we were able to enjoy the view comfortably.”

Not everyone knew about the advance-reservation rule, though. Kim Dong-hee, 63, who traveled from Changwon to Yeongjongdo for Parents’ Day, said he hadn’t realized reservations were required. “We’ll try to book next time and come back with the family,” he said, adding that he still felt grateful to enjoy the sea with his loved ones on such a nice day.

Since opening, The Sky 184 — the tourist facility on Cheongna Haneul Bridge, the third connecting bridge between Cheongna International City and Yeongjong International City — has quickly become a signature Incheon landmark.

Officials from the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority and the Incheon Tourism Organization say most weekend peak slots have sold out since the observatory opened to the public on the 7th.

The first floor houses a gift shop and café. The second-floor exhibition hall features a gallery tracing the bridge’s construction history. The third-floor rooftop terrace is an open space where visitors can feel the sea breeze. Officials also plan to stage performances and media art beneath the main tower.

The Incheon Tourism Organization plans to launch full operations of the high-altitude activity “Edgewalk” on the 15th. Participants will walk along the outside of the 184-meter (about 604 ft) main tower while secured with safety gear. The fee is 60,000 KRW (approximately $45).

An official at the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority said, “We will actively address any issues that arise during operations to make Cheongna Haneul Bridge a flagship tourist destination on the West Coast.”
