Photos and posts showing Taiwanese tourists in Busan receiving surprise pocket money from local elders have been buzzing on social media, spotlighting Korea’s warm, communal spirit.
One Taiwanese traveler recently shared a sweet anecdote from their Busan trip on social media.
They wrote, “Whenever my child walks by, every man and woman in Korea shows them affection.”
According to the post, an elderly local approached while they were pushing a stroller and quietly handed the child 1,000 KRW (about $0.75) as pocket money.
Another Taiwanese visitor recalled a moment at a restaurant when an elder offered pocket money to the child traveling with them. Touched, the group paused to take a commemorative photo together.

The shared photos show the elders and the Taiwanese family smiling and posing together.
Taiwanese netizens were clearly intrigued. One commenter noted there are so many reports of children receiving pocket money in Busan, adding, “Korean elders really seem to love kids sincerely.”
Others pointed out that Korean elders often enjoy giving a little cash even to children they don’t know, and suggested that warm, close-knit places like Busan are especially likely to display this kind of generosity.
These small acts of kindness from Korean elders toward foreign visitors have sparked a warm, positive reaction across Taiwanese social media.
