The 2026 Cheongchun Yanggu Gomchi Festival — Yanggu County’s signature spring celebration in Gangwon — kicks off on May 2 and runs for four fun-filled days.
‘Royal Gomchi’ is this year’s slogan, and the festival lineup is packed with activities designed to delight visitors of all ages.
This edition puts sustainability front and center. Organizers are cutting single-use items and expanding reusable container programs to promote greener festival habits.
Last year, Yanggu set attendance records across its three major local festivals, and officials say this year’s event aims to build on that momentum.
Expect an even richer program this year, with more ways to play, taste, and relax.
The festival is family-friendly, with lots of hands-on options for kids. The ‘Catch! TiniPing’ pop-up playground mixes arcade-style games, interactive activities, and DIY workshops into a lively kids’ zone.
At the Kids Adventure Zone, a mobile petting zoo, inflatables, and gomchi kit-making stations will run throughout the festival for nonstop kid-approved fun.
Opening day, May 2, features the ‘Mini Force Sing-Along Show.’ On Children’s Day, May 5, there will be the ‘Catch! TiniPing Sing-Along Show’ and a family song festival called ‘Gomirang: Play, Sing & Enjoy!’ — all aimed at creating memorable family moments.
Food lovers will find plenty to savor, centered on Yanggu’s specialty, gomchi — a local wild leaf prized for its unique flavor.
Hands-on culinary experiences let visitors make gomchi pesto pizza and gomchi-flavored ice cream. There are also traditional activities like rice-cake pounding with gomchi and wrap tastings, plus sales of premium gomchi makgeolli for a one-of-a-kind tasting adventure.
Evenings come alive with a varied performance schedule.
On May 2, MBC Radio will host a live broadcast featuring Choi Su-ho and Kim Da-bi. May 3 brings the ‘Cheongchun Yanggu Concert’ with DJ DOC and Park Da-hye, and May 4 presents the ‘Royal Gomchi Concert’ starring Jang Yoon-jung and Kim Hong-nam.
On May 5, Oksang Dalbit will headline a special Children’s Day family concert filled with beloved children’s songs to lift the festival’s energy even higher.
There’s also a pre-registration ‘Royal Healing Zone’ for those who want a quiet nature escape, plus social-media challenges, surveys, and souvenir giveaways to keep visitors engaged.
