[iNews24 Reporter So Jin-seop] Jecheon City in North Chungcheong Province is rolling out a Half-Price Travel campaign to lure visitors this spring.
On April 2, the city said it was the only municipality in North Chungcheong chosen for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s “Local Love Vacation Support” (Half-Price Travel) program, securing ₩1,000,000,000 in national and other funding — about $660,000.
Here’s how it works: travelers who top up the mobile Jecheon currency and use it for local lodging, meals, or activities can get 50–70% of their spending back — up to ₩100,000 (about $66) per person, and up to ₩140,000 (about $92) for people aged 19–34.
The city says reimbursements will be issued in local currency, encouraging spending at traditional markets and restaurants and creating a virtuous cycle that links tourism with the regional economy.
Applications open on the 7th through a dedicated website (search “Jecheon Half-Price Travel” on portal sites).
Jang Do-sang, head of Jecheon’s Tourism Planning Team, said, “Tourism is an industry where time spent turns into spending. We’ll pursue tourism policies to position Jecheon as a stay-focused destination that brings visitors back.”
