Gangneung City in Gangwon Province announced on the 28th that, as part of its 2026–27 \”Year to Visit Gangneung\” campaign, April’s Recommended Destination theme will be \”A Day of Petal Rain Under the Cherry Blossoms: Walk in Literature!\” and the Heo Gyun–Heo Nanseolheon Memorial Park has been chosen as the featured spot.
The park honors Joseon-era writer Heo Gyun and his poet sister Heo Nanseolheon. Early April brings peak cherry blossoms, and by mid to late April, double-flowered cherry trees take over—so you get a changing spring tableau all month long. Stroll down petal-dusted paths and soak up the park’s peaceful atmosphere; it’s a favorite with spring visitors.
Nearby activities pair perfectly with the park: wander around Gyeongpo Lake, explore the ARTE Museum Gangneung, or check out the Meta Bus Experience Center for immersive digital content. If you prefer the coast, try the beach trail that runs from Gyeongpo Beach across Sotdae Bridge to Gangmun Beach.

For a traditional-culture detour, visit Ojukheon, try a session at the traditional tea experience center, or stop by the Kim Si-seup Memorial Hall to learn about another notable Joseon-era writer.
April also brings seasonal events like the Gyeongpo Cherry Blossom Festival, Gyodong Solol Blossom, and the Namsan Park Cherry Blossom Festival.
Don’t miss the local eats: mountain-herb bibimbap, sundubu (soft-tofu) dishes, and even sundubu gelato offer a tasty taste of the region.
Eom Geum-mun, head of the city’s tourism policy division, said April’s theme blends Gangneung’s history, literature and natural scenery. He added the city will keep refining its offerings so visitors can enjoy a multi-layered trip that combines cherry blossoms, tradition and local cuisine.
